The Share A Dream Come True parade made its debut at Magic Kingdom Park on October 1, 2001, just in time for Walt Disney World Resort’s 100 Years of Magic Celebration, which commemorated the 100th anniversary of Walt Disney’s birth.
Share a Dream Come True Parade Announcement
The parade began with the following announcement:
“Hello everyone and welcome. This is Julie Andrews and I'd like to tell you a story. In 1901, a little boy named Walt Disney was born and a dream began. The dream of imagination that today, 100 years later, has touched every one of our lives. I once had the privilege to know the dreamer, Walt Disney. His imagination inspired and built his dreams into reality for all of us to share and he made them practically perfect in every way. Today we celebrate and share the legacy of Walt Disney filled with pixie dust, princesses, fairy tales, and fantasies and above all the magic of dreams. (Children’s chorus sings Sharing a Dream Come True. A child enthusiastically announces) and now, Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls, the Magic Kingdom proudly presents the Share a Dream Come True Parade.”

The parade featured unique snow globe style floats. The snow globes were acrylic and 8.5 feet in diameter. The parade highlighted many of the favorite Disney stories with more than 100 cast members and characters.

The original concept for Share a Dream Come True Parade were floats of snow globes that would create snow when the parade would stop to perform for the guests (known as show stops).
Parade Floats
The parade is introduced by a mini float, featuring Walt Disney (a cast member representing Walt) sitting on a platform sketching Mickey Mouse at his desk. This was followed by a string of floats that each showcased a different Disney film:
|
Mickey invited Tinker Bell to sprinkle her pixie dust and gets the crowd to join in calling out "pixie dust!” The pixie dust sparkled over the float and glittered inside the snow globe dome.
Following Mickey's float were the brooms from The Sorcerer's Apprentice. |
It Was All Started by a Mouse
Features Mickey Mouse inside a snow globe, with 11 sculpted figures of Mickey from some of his different roles throughout the years These included “Steamboat Willie,” “The Brave Little Tailor,” “Plane Crazy,” “Mickey and the Beanstalk,” ”The Nifty Nineties,” “Mickey’s Christmas Carol” and Sorcerer Mickey from “Fantasia.” Mickey is surrounded by some of his friends including Minnie Mouse, Donald and Goofy.
|
Wish Upon a Star
This was based on the 1940 animated film Pinocchio and 1937 animated film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Donkey boys and Honest John and Gideon kicked off the next unit. |
Pinocchio stands inside a snow globe on top of a wooden-looking float, with his father Geppetto and the Blue Fairy beneath him. Following along were Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

Winnie the Pooh sat in the front of the unit, Dumbo and Mr. Stork appeared on the opposite side. On the back of the float was Mary Poppins with her Umbrella on the rooftops of London. Alice, The Mad Hatter, Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum dance along the parade route. Piglet, Eeyore, and Tigger glided down the parade route with balloons and kites in hand preceding this float. While Bernard and Bianca from The Rescuers rested on the Genie's Lamp. |
Face The Darkest Fears
This villain-themed unit featured The Evil Queen inside the snow globe. The Evil Queen would transform herself into the Old Hag. Down beneath her was a selection of villains which had constantly changed. Some of the Villains surrounding the float include Jafar from “Aladdin,” Maleficent from “Sleeping Beauty,” Cruella De Vil from “101 Dalmatians,” Ursula from “The Little Mermaid.” Captain Hook, Mr. Smee and the Pirates from “Peter Pan” led the way. Chernabog, from Fantasia’s “Night on Bald Mountain,” rested its arms on top of the snow globe. Governor Ratcliffe and Frollo were also part of the parade. |
A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes/Happily Ever After
This float featured three individual snow globes: Cinderella and Prince Charming from “Cinderella” in the first snow globe with Fairy Godmother on the float, Belle and Beast from “Beauty and the Beast” in the second, and Ariel and Prince Eric from “The Little Mermaid” in the third. Each float had scenery that were images from their movies. Bridesmaids surrounded the float. |
As Long as There is Imagination Left in the World
Peter Pan rode on this float. Inside the snow globe there was a Castle designed after the Crystal Castle located in the Crystal Arts Shop on Main Street, U.S.A. The float was preceded by Wendy Darling and the Lost Boys. In addition to the characters on each float, the “Share a Dream Come True” parade features other Disney characters, including Alice, Tweedledee and Tweedledum from “Alice in Wonderland,” Pocahontas and Meeko from “Pocahontas,” Foulfellow, Gideon and the Donkey Boys from “Pinocchio”.
|
Next to Peter were Minnie Mouse, Goofy, and Donald.
Disney characters such as the Cheshire Cat from “Alice in Wonderland,” Young Simba, Zazu and Timon from “The Lion King,” and Thumper and Flower from “Bambi” rode atop the float, while Baloo, Brer Bear and Brer Fox from “Song of the South,” Esmerelda from “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” and Chip 'n' Dale walked beside. |
Music
During the 100 Years of Magic celebrations, the floats would stop at certain points along the route. Each float had a separate music score which consisted of the main theme called Fantasy, and the Share a Dream Come True theme, as well as music from each of the movies represented on the floats.

All the music in the show was recorded by members of the London Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by David T. Clydesdale, and was composed by Gavin Greenaway.

Main Street Trolley Parade February 2003 – present
Every morning a group of twelve performers – six guys and six gals dressed in their Sunday dandy ride in a turn-of-the-20th-century trolley car down Main Street U.S.A.. When the Trolley stops, three couples exit on each side of the trolley and begin singing and dancing to tunes like “The Most Magical Place on Earth,” “Walkin’ Right Down the Middle of Main Street, U.S.A.” and “The Trolley Song.”

A new soundtrack was also specially written and produced for the parade. |
Unfortunately, the Pirate and Princess parties did not become popular enough for Disney to continue them, and they were sadly discontinued end of 2008.

Afterword:
WDWMousing.com is designed to be a tour of Walt Disney World through photos. We have been to Walt Disney World countless times over the past 25 years and accumulated a magnitude of photos in that time. This website is an intention to combine two of our favorite pastimes, Walt Disney World and photography, and provide an insightful pictorial tour. While doing so, we've done an extensive research of the internet and literary sources for background information on each area and attraction. The information is available, but most bits and pieces are scattered all over. WDWMousing doesn't intend to rewrite the stories, legends or data, but to try and collect it into one location with references and links to the original articles and authors, giving rightful credit. We've stumbled through quite a bit of misinformation, most of which came to life by fans because the origins were lost, forgotten or no one seems to remember. Over the past 25 years we've also lost most of the great Imagineers that helped develop, design and build the original concepts of Walt Disney World. So we believe it's extremely important to make sure that their efforts, intentions, details and creativity in making this Happiest Place on Earth isn't lost. So we ask for feedback, insights, and suggestions. Thanks, WDWMousing |
